Yun Seondo (Gosan)

Yun Seon-do (尹善道, 1587–1671) was a scholar-official of the mid-Joseon period and one of the most celebrated poets of the Korean sijo tradition, known by his pen name Gosan. Though he held various government posts, he is remembered above all for verse composed in the Korean vernacular—works such as "Eobusasisa" (The Fisherman's Calendar) and "Ou-ga" (Song of Five Friends)—which greatly elevated the artistry of native-language poetry. Regarded as a master of Joseon sijo, he was also the great-grandfather of the painter Yun Du-seo and a maternal ancestor of the scholar Jeong Yak-yong.
