The 3.1 Memorial Hill (3.1 Dongsan) was created to commemorate the Imsil region's March 1st Independence Movement, which began with a protest march by students of Osu-myeon Osu-ri Elementary School on March 10. The Osu March 1st Independence Movement was an anti-Japanese resistance in which followers of all religions — Confucianism, Buddhism, Cheondogyo, and Christianity — together with educators, students, and ordinary citizens all united as one. Facilities within the hill include a memorial monument, an Independence Declaration stone, an octagonal pavilion, and the March 1st Gate (3.1 Gate). The March 1st Movement Memorial Monument inside the hill was erected to carry forward the noble spirit of the March 1st Independence Movement of 1919 (Gimi Year), to honor the passionate spirit of self-reliance and independence of the Imsil region, and to commemorate the patriots who sacrificed their lives. After visiting the hill, nearby attractions include Jungniram, Gwiraejeong, and the Sunchang Namgye-ri Stone Jangseung (totems), among many other sites.
