The exact founding date of Jeongeup Hyanggyo is unknown, but it was relocated to its current site by local Confucian scholars in 1638 (the 16th year of King Injo). Since then it has undergone eight rounds of repair, reaching its present appearance. Inside the hyanggyo, the Daeseongjeon (main shrine hall) is the place where Confucius and the memorial tablets of both Chinese and Korean Confucian scholars are enshrined and memorial rites are held. It measures three bays across and three bays deep, with a gabled (맞배) roof. The Jeongeup Hyanggyo Daeseongjeon is designated as a Jeollabuk-do Cultural Heritage Resource.
