About this place

Yukmojeong is a hexagonal pavilion situated beside the Guryong Valley, near the Guryong Visitor Center of Jirisan National Park. Its name, meaning 'six-ridged pavilion' (六茅亭), derives from its hexagonal form. Dating to 1572 (the 5th year of King Seonjo's reign), it is a historic site associated with the Wondong Hyangyak (village covenant) that was established within the jurisdiction of Namwon Dohobu and has been maintained to this day — the pavilion served as a gathering place for hyangyak members. Damaged by floods in 1961, it was restored in 1997. While the original pavilion stood atop a large boulder beside the Guryong Valley, the restored structure now stands on a hillside a short distance away. Nearby are Yonghojeon Pavilion, Chunhyang's Tomb, and Yongheo Seowon.
