Bonghwangsa is a temple of the Korean Buddhist Taegojong order founded in 1968, located on Bonghwangsan Mountain in Obong-ri, Geumgu-myeon, Gimje-si. Heading from Gimje toward Jeonju, one passes Geumcheon Lake; after the lake, a road to Bonghwangsa appears on the right. In terms of scale, it is closer to a hermitage than a full temple. Its buildings consist of a main hall (Daeungjeon), a Samseong Hall, and a living quarters (yosa). The Daeungjeon is a three-bay-front wooden structure in the style of a typical residential house. Beside the residence hall stands a stone Maitreya Buddha carved in 1991.
