Geodongsa is a Buddhist temple affiliated with Eunhaesa, the main temple of the 10th district of the Jogye Order, and is located on Mount Bohyeon. It is said to have been founded by the great monk Uisang (625-702) of the Silla period, but no detailed records from after its founding survive. The remains visible around the current Geodongsa compound indicate it was once a very large temple. Among the existing structures are the Daeungjeon (main hall), two residences (요사), and the Mountain Spirit Hall (Sansingak). Of these, the Daeungjeon is a multi-tiered gabled-roof structure (다포계 맞배지붕) and is designated as North Gyeongsang Province Cultural Heritage No. 137. The Geodongsa Daeungjeon is the building that enshrines Shakyamuni Buddha and preserves old architectural styles.
