Following the common practice of building on sloping ground, Yeonghae Hyanggyo adopted the "school-in-front, shrine-behind" (jeonhak-humyo) arrangement, placing the Daeseongjeon behind the Myeongnyundang. Except for the Taehwaru, the Daeseongjeon, Myeongnyundang, and the Dongjae and Seojae were rebuilt in 2009; the Dongmu, Seomu, inner three-bay gate, and Jeonsacheong, which had not existed before, were newly built at this time according to old records. Enshrined in the Daeseongjeon are the Five Sages, in the Dongmu and Seomu the two worthies of the Song dynasty, and the spirit tablets of the 18 worthies of Korea.
