About this place

Located in Guryong-myeon, Buyeo-gun, this shrine honors the spirit tablets of Yun Jip, O Dal-je, and Hong Ik-han, the 'Three Scholars of Loyalty' (Samhaksa) of the mid-Joseon period. Built in the 43rd year of King Sukjong (1717), it received the royal plaque 'Changnyeolsa' in the 1st year of King Gyeongjong (1721). Unlike most private academies, it was spared during Heungseon Daewongun's abolition decree. The shrine building is 5 bays wide and 3 bays deep with a gable roof. During the Manchu invasion (Byeongja Horan) in the 14th year of King Injo, these three scholars opposed any peace with Qing, were taken to Shenyang, withstood severe torture while refusing to capitulate, and were executed. Even Qing Emperor Taizong praised their integrity; later generations honored them as the Three Scholars of Loyalty. Nearby attractions include Geumsa-ri Catholic Church, Cheongil-sa Shrine, Hongsan Hyanggyo, and Sangcheon-ji Reservoir.
