About this place

Deokcheon Seowon was founded in 1794 to commemorate the learning and virtuous conduct of Kim Gwan-seok, Kim Cheon-taek, Kim Ju, and Kim Jeup; it is located in Yundong village, a clan village of the Uiseong Kim family. It took part in enshrining the four members of the Uiseong Kim clan and in local education, but it was demolished in 1868 under the Regent Heungseon Daewongun's order abolishing the seowon and was not restored at the time; restoration began later and was completed in 2019. The buildings on the grounds comprised the shrine (Sau), the spirit gate (Sinmun), the lecture hall Jungjeongdang, Yangjinheon, Heomhyoryo, the ritual-preparation hall (Jeonsacheong), and a storehouse (gosa).
