Cheongsong in Gyeongbuk, the remotest of remote places along the Baekdudaegan mountain range, was designated a Slow City on June 25, 2011. A Slow City refers to a city that pursues the aesthetics of living slowly; it began with the aim of breaking away from the Fast City that pressures only for speed and productivity, so that nature, environment, and people may be in harmony with one another and people may live in leisure and joy, and it signifies a village pursuing sustainable development on the basis of the so-called philosophy of slowness, including the preservation of tradition, a focus on local residents, and ecologism. In Pacheon-myeon of Cheongsong there are two representative villages. One is Cheongdo Deokcheon Village, a clan village of the Cheongsong Sim family with a total of 7 old houses; the other is Jungpyeong Seonbi (Scholar) Village, where one can glimpse the charm of the hanok and the spirit of the old scholars. Both villages are tranquil villages where Joseon-dynasty houses remain against a backdrop of splendid natural scenery. Cultural experiences and hanok stays are offered to carry on traditional culture, and the cost must be inquired about separately.
