Seorak-dong, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do
Open in mapAbout this place
This refers to four large tumuli distributed on a ridge immediately behind the Tomb of King Muyeol in Gyeongju's Seorak-dong. All the burial mounds are circular with no notable surrounding structures. Ring-stones of split rock are partially exposed at the mound edges, differing from the river-stone ring-stones typical of the Daereungwon tombs. The internal structure is presumed to be stone-chamber passage tombs. The topography follows a ridge extending southwest from Mt. Sindo, suggesting the tombs were laid out under the influence of geomantic principles. The tombs are tentatively identified as those of Kings Beopheung, Jinheung, Jinji, and Munheuung.
