Changju Seowon was originally built in 1579 (the 12th year of King Seonjo) in Geumji-myeon, Namwon as the Goryong Seowon, and in 1600 (the 33rd year of Seonjo) was renamed Changju Seowon when the king bestowed it with a new signboard. It was closed under Heungseon Daewongun's edict abolishing private academies during the reign of King Gojong, but was restored in 1959 at its current location. The current compound includes the shrine Myeongdeoksa, the inner gate, the lecture hall, and the caretaker's quarters. The shrine roof is a gabled (맞배) style. Inside, the memorial tablet of No Jin is enshrined, and a memorial ceremony is held on the 20th day of the third lunar month every year. The lecture hall features a hipped-and-gabled (팔작) roof.
