About this place

Mokcheon Hyanggyo is an educational institution established in the early Joseon period for education and moral instruction. Burned down during the Imjin War, it was later rebuilt and repaired multiple times, and was relocated to its current site by Chamberlain Han Hyeok according to the Mokcheon county records. The surviving buildings include the 3-bay Daeseongjeon shrine hall (for ritual ceremonies), the 3-bay East and West Wing halls (Dongmu and Seomu), the 5-bay Myeongnyundang lecture hall (educational function), and the 3-bay dormitories Dongjae and Seojae. Spirit tablets of Confucius, his disciples, and Korean and Chinese sages are enshrined in the Daeseongjeon. Memorial rites are held in spring and autumn.
