The Namgye Seowon was established to honor the loyalty and filial piety of Kim Jidae (1190-1266) at Dugok-ri, Cheongdo-myeon, Miryang-gun, South Gyeongsang Province. The shrine was called Chungghyosa and served for ancestor veneration and local education, but was demolished in 1868 (Gojong 51st year) under the Daewongun's seowon abolition order. The spirit tablets were buried in the rear mountain and a ceremonial altar was set up. In 1907, descendants rebuilt the lecture hall Ssangsudang. Later, Confucian scholars in the Mujang hyanggyo district proposed relocating it, and in 1982 it was moved to its current location and renamed Gyesan Seowon. Within the seowon are Sangchungsa (3 bays), lecture hall Gyeonguijang (4 bays), Gammoejae (5 bays), inner gate, main gate Ssangsu Gate, and a caretaker's house.
