About this place

The Ganggyeong Central Elementary School Auditorium is a building constructed with red bricks in the 1930s. Ganggyeong Central Elementary School is the first school established in Nonsan and by number of graduating classes, the oldest school in South Chungcheong Province. It opened on April 2, 1905 as the 2-year private Bomyeong School, and has since changed names several times: in 1907 to the 4-year Ganggyeong Public Common School; in 1938 to Ganggyeong Jungjeong Public Elementary School; in 1941 to Ganggyeong Jungjeong Public National School; and in 1946 to Ganggyeong Central Elementary School. The auditorium is a ground-floor building erected on June 30, 1937. It was donated by the Support Association of Ganggyeong Public Common School to commemorate the school's 30th anniversary. Built using red bricks on a concrete foundation, the exterior has white concrete bands creating a two-level horizontal division, with brick corbeling at the corners. This building follows the typical architectural features of auditoriums of that era, with white bands wrapping around it to break the monotony of the facade, showing an elegant charm.
