Cheongye Seowon, located in Gamgyo-ri, Sangseo-myeon, Buan-gun, is a late Joseon-era seowon. Founded in 1707 (Sukjong 33rd year), it was demolished in 1865 (Gojong 2nd year) under Heungseon Daewongun's nationwide seowon abolition order, leaving only a 'Cheongye Sajiji' (ruins monument) stone. It was restored by the descendants in October 2009. Cheongye Seowon venerates Song Sejeong (Dobong), Yi Seunggan (Seokho), and Na Deokheon (Chungnyeolgong), three individuals. It consists of an outer three-gate and a shrine building. Passing through the outer gate with the 'Cheongye Seowon' plaque, a single shrine hall with the 'Cheongyesa' plaque appears. The shrine is a three-bay-wide, two-bay-deep gabled-roof building. Song Sejeong (Dobong) was born in 1470 (Seongjong 1st year) in Buan Ongjung and passed the Samasi examination in 1497 (Yeonsangun 3rd year). Known for his outstanding filial piety, he received a royal commendation in 1543 (Jungjong 38th year) and a filial piety gateway called 'Baegwonmun' was erected in Buan-eup, Yeongok-ri. Yi Seunggan (Seokho) was born in 1483 (Seongjong 14th year) in Seokje, Buan-eup, renowned as a filial son. Na Deokheon (Chungnyeolgong) passed the military examination in 1602 (Seonjo 35th year) and served as Buan County Magistrate from 1609 (Gwanghae 1st year), governing with just and benevolent policies and was enshrined at Cheongye Seowon.
