About this place

This is a shrine enshrining the portrait and spirit tablet of Kim Mun-gi (pen name Wangui), an early Joseon civil official. Kim Mun-gi was born in Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, passed the civil examination in the 8th year of King Sejong's reign, and rose to the position of Minister of Personnel. In 1456, he was involved in the plot to restore King Danjong along with Seong Sam-mun and Bak Paeng-nyeon; when discovered, he refused to submit under torture and was executed. To the right of the entrance is a stele to Kim Mun-gi. Nine stone steps lead up to the triple outer gate (3 bays wide, 2 deep), which is a soaring samdoor style. Through the outer gate stands the shrine building (3 bays wide, 2 deep): the front bay is an open porch and the rear bay enshrines the portrait. The roof is a double-eaved gable roof. Near Wangui Yeongdang are the Seodongyo Theme Park and Bansan Seowon.
