Located about 1 km up the road from Pyeongjang Elementary School in Pyeongjang-ri, Baekun-myeon, this memorial arch stands at a fork leading to Wonnochon and Hamachi villages. It was erected to honor and emulate the filial devotion of Sinuiyeon, a filial son who lived during the Joseon period. Sinuiyeon, a member of the Geochang Sin clan living in Nochon-ri, Baekun-myeon, Jinan, had promised to join the forces of General Hwang Jin and Kim Cheonil when the Imjin War broke out, but could not fulfill his vow because his father was near death. According to legend, a Japanese commander tested his filial piety by setting fire to paper inscribed with the character for 'filial son,' and the paper rose into the sky unburned, proving his virtue. King Seonjo, upon hearing of this, bestowed a commendation arch on him, and his descendants built the Yeongmojeong pavilion to further honor his legacy.
