About this place

Originally a large hospital facility built by independence activist Kim Byeong-su, the building now serves as the Iksan Modern History Museum. During the Japanese colonial period, Kim Byeong-su, a physician and independence activist, opened it as Samsan Medical Clinic in 1922 on Jungang-dong, which was then a bustling commercial street. The two-story building with a total floor area of 289.26 m² was large for its time. The building facade features horizontal band-like projecting decorations (bosco ornaments), and the entrance porch forms an arch. After the Liberation of August 15, it was used by Korea Mujin Company and Gookmin Bank. It now operates as the Iksan Modern History Museum; the safe and window frames remaining on the left wall of the first-floor exhibition room are displayed as original artifacts from that era.
