Juklim Confucian Academy was established in 1626 (the 4th year of King Injo) as Hwangsan Academy to honor Yi I and Seong Hon. Kim Jang-saeng was later added. It received the royal designation 'Juklim' from King Hyeonjong in 1665, and the spirit tablets of Jo Gwang-jo, Yi Hwang, and Song Si-yeol were subsequently added. Demolished by the Heungseon Daewongun's edict, it was rebuilt in 1965.
