This is the birthplace and childhood home of Gain Kim Byeong-ro, a 15th-generation descendant of the Joseon mid-period Confucian scholar Haseo Kim In-hu. He grew up here and went on to become Korea's first Supreme Court Chief Justice in 1948 — a jurist and politician who left a major mark on modern Korean history and is most revered by legal professionals as one of the 'Three Saints of the Korean Judiciary.' The birthplace originally consisted of the main house (anchae), the men's quarters (sarangchae), and the gatehouse (mungan chae), but these were destroyed during the Korean War and nothing of the original remained. Sunchang-gun restored the main house and gatehouse based on verification by his descendants, completing the restoration in May 2014.
