Yecheon Geumdangsil Village

Geumdangsil Village, named for its resemblance to a lotus flower floating on water, is a village located in the area of Sanggeumgok-ri, Yongmun-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is an experience village where visitors can stay at a traditional hanok guesthouse in 6 restored thatched-roof houses and 7 tiled-roof houses. The village retains many cultural relics, including the site of the 99-kan mansion of Lord Yangju Yi Yu-in, the head house and Choganjeong pavilion that are relics of Chogan Gwon Mun-hae, Yongmunsa Temple, Geumgok Seowon, Chuwonjae, the old house of Sagoedang, and the Bansongjae old house that commemorates Kim Bin, the royal secretary during the reign of King Sukjong of Joseon. The stone-wall alleys that connect the more than ten old houses like a maze remain just as they were in the past. Another attraction of the village is Choganjeong pavilion and the pine forest to the northwest of Geumdangsil, designated a natural monument. About 900 pine trees are densely arranged over roughly 800 m from below Omibong Peak of Geumdangsil to the front of Yongmun Elementary School; they are a natural forest of gnarled trees about 200 years old and 13-18 m tall. The forest was created to prevent flood damage and block wind, and today it is used as a resting place and event center for the village.
