About this place

Unbong Hyanggyo was first built in 1575 (the 8th year of King Seonjo) at Sungsan in Gasan-ri, and moved to its current location in 1640 (the 18th year of King Injo). The surviving buildings include the Daeseongjeon (main shrine), east and west auxiliary shrines (dongmu and seomu), Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), east and west dormitories, Gojiksa (caretaker's cottage), Jingang-ru (gate pavilion), Sinmun (inner gate), and Oesammun (outer gate). The Unbong Hyanggyo Daeseongjeon is designated as a Jeollabuk-do Cultural Heritage Resource. It enshrines the spirit tablets of Confucius, Yan Zi (Yan Hui), Zeng Zi, Zisi, Mencius (the Four Sages), four of the Six Worthies of the Song Dynasty (Song Jo Yukhyeon), and eighteen Korean sages (two from Silla, two from Goryeo, and fourteen from Joseon).
