This seowon enshrines An Chosun, victim of the Gimyo Purge during King Jungjong's reign (1506-1544), along with Jeong Hwan, Jeong Hwang, and Yi Daebyeong. An Chosun was a mid-Joseon official who worked to develop local education. Yeongcheon Seowon was founded in 1619 (Gwanghaegun year 11) and received royal designation in 1686 (Sukjong year 12). Demolished in 1868 under the Heungseon Daewongun's order, it was rebuilt after liberation from Japanese rule. The shrine and lecture hall are each three-bay-wide, two-bay-deep gabled-roof buildings. Among some 30 seowon in the vicinity, it was the only royally-designated one, attracting eminent scholars from far away.
