Cheongseong Seowon

Andong Cheongseong Seowon is an academy commemorating Songam Gwon Ho-mun (1532–1587). Gwon Ho-mun was a writer and scholar during the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon (r. 1567–1608) who spent his whole life secluded in nature; being of high virtue, he was visited by many literati. Built in the 41st year of King Seonjo (1608), this academy enshrined the master's tablet and held memorial rites from the 4th year of Gwanghaegun (1612), and in the 43rd year of King Yeongjo (1767) it was relocated to its present site. In the 5th year of King Gojong (1868) it was demolished under Regent Heungseon Daewongun's edict abolishing private academies, and thereafter, in 1909, it was restored on its former site according to the wishes of the province's Confucian scholars. Within the academy are seven buildings in all: the lecture hall, the eastern dormitory, the western dormitory, the Jeongdomun gate, the Cheongpungsa, the ritual-preparation hall, and the spirit gate. At this academy, memorial rites are held in February and August each year.
