Hakjeong Seowon was founded in 1656 (Hyojong 7th year) at what is now Jucheon-ri, Osi-myeon. In 1840 (Heonjong 6th year), it was relocated to Wondong, Gugo-ri, Cheongung-myeon, and petitioned to the Ministry of Rites for the royal designation 'Hajeong Seowon,' but in the same year since Kim Cheonil's seowon title had already been given to another, a royal instruction was issued directing that it be held as a royally-designated seowon without the title. In 1859 (Cheoljong 10th year), regulations were established and it was ordered to hold rites on the 3rd of March each year. In 1868 (Gojong 5th year), it was demolished under Heungseon Daewongun's nationwide abolition order. Afterward, an altar was set up and annual memorial rites were held. The seowon venerates Kim Cheonil as the primary figure, along with Bak Beon, Bak Hun, Hong Bung, Yi Heungsam, Jo Pyeong, and Kim Wongeun. In 1995, the shrine (3 bays) and inner gate (3 bays) were restored with support from the local government and contributions from Confucian scholars and descendants.
