About this place

In 1786 (the 10th year of King Jeongjo), by the consensus of the local Confucian scholars, Guisan Seosa was founded to honor the scholarship and virtue of Seo Yu (徐愈), and his memorial tablet was enshrined. In 1839 (the 5th year of King Heonjong), it received the royal charter name 'Gusan' and was elevated to a chartered seowon, and in 1848 Seo Il-won (徐一元) was additionally enshrined. While it played its part in honoring past sages and in local education, it was demolished in 1868 (the 5th year of King Gojong) under Heungseon Daewongun's order to abolish seowon. It was later restored by the local Confucian scholars in 1983 and remains to this day. Memorial rites are held each year on the first jeong day of the second month and the first jeong day of the eighth month.
