About this place

Flagpole supports (danggan jiju) are installed at the entrance of Buddhist temples. When the temple holds a ceremony or ritual, a banner called 'dang' is hung on a tall pole called 'danggan,' and the two stone pillars supporting the danggan on either side are called 'danggan jiju.' Occasionally the pole itself survives, but usually only the two pillars remain. These flagpole supports stand at the back of a village house at the entrance to the village. Their condition is not very good: one pillar is broken and lying separately, and the other is heavily damaged. The pillar bases are assembled from several stones with lotus patterns carved on the sides. In the facing surfaces are grooves for securing the flagpole. A lotus-pattern base stone sits between the pillars. Based on the quality of stonework and decorative details, these are considered works of the Goryeo period.
