Geumgok Seowon was founded in 1568 (the 1st year of King Seonjo) by the consensus of the local Confucian scholars to honor the scholarship and virtuous conduct of Chiam Bak Chung-jwa, and his memorial tablet was enshrined there. Later, Bak Nul and Bak Son-gyeong were additionally enshrined. It was demolished in 1868 (the 5th year of King Gojong) under the Seowon Abolition Order of Heungseon Daewongun, and in 1984 it was restored by the local Confucian scholars on the site of Hoesansa, taking on its present form.
