Adjacent to Buyeo Dongheon (the local government office), Dogang Yeongdang is a shrine enshrining and venerating the portraits of three Joseon-period officials: Hong Ga-sin, Heo Mok, and Chae Je-gong. The building was originally a government office of Buyeo County in the late Joseon period and was newly constructed in 1971 to enshrine the three men. The three-bay-by-two-bay shrine has the front bay open as a worship space, with the rear section housing the three portraits. Hong Ga-sin was a civil official of the mid-Joseon period who passed the civil examination in the 22nd year of King Myeongjong. He served as governor of Ganghwa and vice-minister of justice, and was enrolled as a first-class merit subject for quelling Yi Mong-hak's rebellion in 1596. Heo Mok was a civil official of the late Joseon period who rose to the position of Second State Councillor without taking the civil examination, and was renowned as a painter, calligrapher, and writer, especially excelling in seal script. Chae Je-gong was a civil official of the late Joseon period who passed the examinations in 1735. He bravely opposed King Yeongjo's attempt to depose Crown Prince Sado, earning the king's trust, and served as chief state counselor.
