Mujinam (Buyeo)

Mujinam is located at 125 Mansu-ri, Oesan-ri, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. Mujinam is a small nunnery imbued with the tidiness of Buddhist nuns, a beautiful temple. On the way to Mujinam, pine trees stretching straight up toward the sky stand like open parasols, catching the eye. Mujinam, a place of practice for Buddhist nuns, lies on a sunny, south-facing slope well bathed in sunlight, situated on a relatively flat and broad spot along a ridge of the low Mansusan. Resembling the clean nature of Mansusan, the entire temple grounds are clear and neatly arranged, and with Buddhist construction actively underway recently, it is equipped with a fairly large Daeungjeon and Samseonggak along with several monks' quarters. Muryangsa, a temple near Mujinam, is the largest temple in Buyeo, set in a forest at the foot of Mansusan in Oesan where pine trees grow thick and water flows abundantly. This temple is said to have been founded by State Preceptor Beomil during the Unified Silla period; it flourished greatly during the Goryeo period and, after being burned during the Imjin War, was rebuilt during the reign of King Injo of Joseon (1636-1646).
