Bomunsa Temple was founded by the monk Uisang in the 16th year of King Munmu of Silla (676) and rebuilt by National Preceptor Bojo Jinul in the 15th year of King Myeongjong of Goryeo (1185). Jinul restored seven buildings including the Geungnakjeon, but most were destroyed by fire during the Imjin War, leaving only the Geungnakjeon, Banhakru, and monks' quarters. The Geungnakjeon is a gabled-roof building of three bays across and two bays deep, combining the jupo and ikgong styles, which clearly reflects the architectural characteristics of the mid to late Joseon period. The interior enshrines the Amitabha Trinity. The Bomunsa Geungnakjeon Amitabha Trinity is designated a Gyeongsangbuk-do Cultural Heritage Material.
