Seongbuk-dong Catholic Church was established in 1975, split from Hyehwa-dong parish. The Virgin Mary statue at the center of the yard is unusual: instead of holding the Christ Child, she clutches a Bible, and her parted, bound hair is striking. Visible to anyone passing through Seongbuk-dong, it is a beloved spot where people often photograph against the beautiful architecture. The sanctuary's stained glass spans 8 windows depicting sacred scenes and their stories — from the infant Jesus in the manger and the worship of the shepherds, to crucial moments in Christian history.
