Sochungsa is a shrine dedicated to General Jeong-jae Yi Seok-yong and the 28 righteous men (uisa) who served under him at the end of the Joseon Dynasty. Located in Obong-ri, Sungsu-myeon, Imsil-gun, North Jeolla Province, it was developed with a budget of 2.365 billion won over an area of 20,300 pyeong from 1992 to November 2002, with facilities including two tombs, a shrine (20 pyeong), a memorial hall (43 pyeong), and a caretaker's quarters (20 pyeong). It was established to uphold the patriotic spirit of loyal martyrs who gave their lives fighting for national independence against Japanese occupation, and serves as a living educational site for the anti-Japanese independence movement, drawing many visitors and worshippers — one of Imsil County's most representative patriotic facilities. The graves of the 28 righteous men, originally located in Jiui-dong and Dongnyong-dong, were temporarily interred at Obong-ri san 1, Sungsu-myeon in May 1988, and in November 1995 were permanently enshrined at Sochungsa as part of a sacred site development project. General Jeong-jae Yi Seok-yong's grave was also relocated from Wolchulsan, Yeongam-gun, South Jeolla Province that same year by his descendants. (Source: Imsil-gun Culture and Tourism)
