About this place

Yeonsan Hyanggyo was founded in the 7th year of King Taejo's reign (1398) and has been repaired several times since then. The surviving buildings include the Daeseongjeon shrine hall as well as the Dongmu and Seomu side halls in the ritual space, and the Myeongnyundang lecture hall and the Dongjae and Seojae dormitories in the educational space. The entrance features the Hongsalmun red gate, the Naesammun inner gate, and the Oesammun outer gate. Inside the Daeseongjeon, spirit tablets are enshrined with Confucius at the center, surrounded by the Five Sages (Ansa, Jeungja, Jasi, Maengja), and including sages from China and Korea. Memorial rites are held every spring and autumn.
