Yeongjisa Temple

Yeongjisa is a temple affiliated with Eunhaesa, the head temple of the 10th parish of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It was founded by the Great Master Uisang during the reign of King Muyeol of the Silla period and named Ungjeongam, but after being destroyed during the Japanese invasions of 1592 (Imjin War), it was rebuilt in 1603 by Jijo and Wonchan, who changed its name to Yeongjisa. It was later renovated in 1774 (the 50th year of King Yeongjo) and remains so to this day; its relics and artifacts include the Daeungjeon (main hall), the Myeongbujeon, the Beomjonggak (bell pavilion), and two yosachae (monks' living quarters).
