울진향교

About this place

울진local Confucian school는 1484년에 경상북도 울진군 읍내리 월변동에 founding/construction된 교육 시설이다. local Confucian school는 훌륭한 유학자의 spirit tablet를 모시고 ancestral rites를 지내며 지방민의 교육과 교화를 위해 설립된 Goryeo와 Joseon시대의 국립 교육기관이다. 1697년 고성리로 이건 하였다가, 1872년에 현재의 위치로 이건 하였다. 1878년에 county magistrate 최형직과 유림의 노력으로 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)을 restoration하였다. 1950년 6·25 전쟁으로 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)과 동재를 제외한 Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), 서재 등 부속건물이 모두 destruction by fire되었으며, 1970년과 1976년에 담장과 주사를 보수하고 1980년 Myeongnyundang (lecture hall)을 reconstruction하였다. 현존하는 건물로는 8칸의 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall), 7칸의 Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), 5칸의 동재, 내삼문 등이 있고, Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)에는 유학자들의 spirit tablet가 봉안되어 있다.
