Yuseoksa Temple, a sub-temple of Gounsa (head temple of the 16th district of the Jogye Order), is nestled on the southern side of Dosolbong Peak on Sobaek Mountain. It is said to have been founded in 694 by Hyetong, the founder of the Haedong Jineon school of Buddhism. The temple layout is simple: the Daeungjeon (main hall) is the center, with Sobaekdang to its front right, the bell tower to the upper left at a diagonal, and the Samseongak (Three Saints Shrine) along the rear ridge. The Daeungjeon is the central hall of Yuseoksa, a three-bay-by-three-bay multi-bracket hip-and-gable roof structure. The bracket columns (gongpo) below the eaves of the Daeungjeon feature a pair of carved dragon heads holding a wish-fulfilling jewel.
