Jeonghyesa Temple in Jeonju is a Buddhist temple where bhiksuni (fully ordained Buddhist nuns) of the Bomunjong school pray and study. In 1899, Choe Hyang-gwan built a small Seven Stars Hall (Chilseong-gak) at the foot of Wansan Mountain, enshrining a Buddhist image, bought a thatched house beside it, and named the temple Jeonghyesa. In 1921, Monk Jeong Myeong-ju, vowing to propagate Buddhism, built a 15-bay Bogwangjeon hall, a 1-bay Yonghwajeon, and also constructed a Myeongbujeon, Nahanjeon, Wansan Meditation Hall, the Four Heavenly Kings Gate, and living quarters (yosachae), dedicating full effort to practice and propagation and establishing a monastic training center to nurture disciples. Subsequently, Monks Baek Hye-myeong and the current head monk Jeong Hye-il have repeatedly performed reconstruction and expansion, bringing the temple to its present form.
