Haenggye Seowon was elevated to the status of a seowon in 1785 on the site of Haenggye Seosa, where Kim Gang devoted himself to study. In 1804 (the 4th year of King Sunjo), it was founded by the consensus of local Confucian scholars to commemorate the scholarship and virtuous conduct of Kim Gang and Kim Hong-je; it enshrined their memorial tablets and served the roles of venerating past sages and providing local education. It was demolished in 1868 by the royal edict abolishing seowon. It was later restored in 1925. The buildings within the precinct include the three-kan Mohyeonsa, the six-kan Myeongnyundang, the divine gate, and living quarters. In the center of the shrine Mohyeonsa, the memorial tablets of Kim Gang and Kim Hong-je are enshrined. Myeongnyundang, the lecture hall, consists of a central wooden-floored hall and side rooms on both ends, and is used for various events of the academy, gatherings of Confucian scholars, and lectures on scholarship.
