흥해향교

About this place

흥해local Confucian school는 1398년(King Taejo 7)에 훌륭한 학자의 spirit tablet를 봉안, 배향하고 지방민의 교육과 교화를 위하여 founding/construction되었다. 1950년 6·25 전쟁 때 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)과 동무만 남고 나머지는 모두 destruction by fire되었고, 기문마저 없어져 restoration 기록을 알 수 없다. 1953년에 Myeongnyundang (lecture hall)과 수복실을 신축하였고, 1970년에 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)의 roof tile 잇기 작업과 1971년에 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)의 단청 보수, 1975년에 동재 보수를 하였다. 현존하는 건물로는 맞배지붕 겹처마의 Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall), 우진각지붕 홑집의 Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), 동무와 서무, 수복실, 사주문 등이 있다. Daeseungjeon (Confucian shrine hall)에는 5성, 송조 2현, 우리나라 18현의 spirit tablet가 봉안되어 있으며, 봄·가을에 석전을 봉행하며 초하루·보름에 분향하고 있다. 흥해local Confucian school 뒤편 구릉지에는 local Confucian school founding/construction 시 함께 조성한 이팝나무가 상수리나무와 섞여 군락을 이루고 있으며 천연기념물로 designated·보호되고 있다.
