About this place

By the consensus of local Confucian scholars during the reign of King Sunjo of Joseon, Hakcheon Shrine was established in Hakcheon-ri, Gui-myeon to commemorate the scholarship and virtue of Jeong Suhong, Jeong Gon, Bak Donghyeon, and Bak Dongjeop, enshrining their spirit tablets. Later, Cheongha Seowon was founded at the current location, and the tablets of Bak Dongjeop and Bak Donghyeon were transferred and enshrined, while Yu Jo was added. During its service in preserving local heritage and local education, it was demolished in 1868 (Gojong 5th year) under Heungseon Daewongun's seowon abolition order. The following year, Confucian scholars established a ceremonial altar and conducted rites. Currently, the shrine of Cheongha Seowon enshrines the tablets of Kim Jangsaeng, Bak Dongjeop, Yu Jo, and Bak Donghyeon, and memorial rites are held every spring on the 3rd new moon of the 3rd lunar month.
