Chunghyeon Confucian Academy was founded in 1581 (the 14th year of King Seonjo) to honor the scholarship and virtue of Zhu Xi, Yi Jon-o, Seong Je-won, and Yi Mok. Destroyed during the Japanese invasions, it was rebuilt in 1610 and received the royal designation 'Chunghyeon' in 1625. Scholar Jo Heon, Kim Jang-saeng, Song Jun-gil, and Song Si-yeol were later added to the honored figures. It was abolished in 1871.
