About this place

This academy was established to honor the loyalty of Manchidang Kim Su-nam (1576–1636). Kim Su-nam was a mid-Joseon civil official who fled with the court to Ganghwa Island during the Imjin War, but died in battle when enemy forces invaded there. Founded in the 13th year of King Sukjong (1687) in Joje-ri, Gayagok-myeon by Song Si-yeol and Song Jun-gil, it was relocated to its current site in the 16th year of King Sukjong (1690). In the 5th year of King Jeongjo (1781), the tablets of Maejukheon Seong Sam-mun and Songjae Jo Gye-myeong were additionally enshrined. Demolished by Heungseon Daewongun in the 5th year of King Gojong (1868), the shrine was rebuilt in 1977 on a stone altar. Ceremonies are held each year on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month and the 9th day of the 9th lunar month.
