About this place

Seongam Seowon is a seowon built to honor Yu Suk and Kim Hong-uk. Yu Suk (1324-1368) was a civil official of the Goryeo dynasty who distinguished himself in suppressing the Red Turban invasion, was enfeoffed as the Lord of Seoryeong, and received the title of First-Class Merit Subject; however, in the 14th year of King Gongmin's reign (1365) he was strangled by Sin Don, who feared his loyalty. Kim Hong-uk (1602-1654) was a civil official of the mid-Joseon period who held various posts including Provincial Governor of Hwanghae Province. He was imprisoned by King Hyojong after angering him over the case of Yi Wan's memorial, but his integrity remained unblemished. The seowon was designated a provincial cultural heritage site.
