Baekseokseowon was a shrine built on Seungbansan in the 3rd year of King Hyojong of Joseon (1652). It was established to commemorate the scholarship and virtuous conduct of Yu Jip. It was abolished in the 5th year of King Gojong (1868) by the Daewongun's decree ordering the closure of Confucian academies, and in 1902 a Korean-style wooden tile-roofed building with a gable roof, three bays across the front and two bays on the side, was rebuilt at its present site, remaining to this day.
