Bijeon Village in Unbong-eup, Namwon is the birthplace of Song Heung-rok, the founder of the Dongpyeonje school of pansori (Korean traditional music) and revered as the 'King of Singers,' and the home region of the female pansori master Park Cho-wol. Unbong has long been known as the area where Okbogo, one of Korea's three great music masters, significantly developed the geomungo zither. Song Heung-rok was born here in the reign of King Sunjo.
