This is the birthplace of former President Park Chung-hee, who served as South Korea's 5th through 9th president across five terms. The compound includes the birthplace house, inner quarters, a memorial incense hall, and a caretaker's residence — four buildings in total. The birthplace itself is a thatched-roof house of about 15 pyeong (approx. 50 m2) built around 1900, typical of a rural farmhouse. Former President Park was born here in 1917 and lived here for about 20 years until graduating from Daegu Normal School in 1937. In 1964, Gumi City renovated the inner quarters and reception hall to their current appearance for use as residences and offices. Since shortly after Park's death in 1979, the reception room has been used as a memorial incense hall. The birthplace was designated a Gyeongsangbuk-do Monument on February 25, 1993, and is jointly managed by the bereaved family and Gumi City, with the surrounding land designated as a protected zone. Next to the birthplace is the Minjok Jungheunggwan memorial hall, established to illuminate Park's achievements, permanently preserve his personal effects, and serve as a historical educational site. The exhibition hall displays approximately 50 personal items from his presidency, photos of major achievements, digital videos of his image and important records, graphically rendered calligraphy and quotes, and a photo wall image of his upper body composed of citizens' faces. In addition, Korea's first planetarium dome theater shows videos of his activities during his lifetime.
