About this place

Byeokseong Seowon was established in 1965 by members of the Gimhae Kim clan. Its buildings consist of an outer gate called Eodeongmun, a lecture hall (gabled hip-and-gable roof, four bays wide and three bays deep), an inner gate called Gyeonguimun, and a shrine called Chunginmyo (three bays wide, one bay deep, gabled roof). Two memorial rites are held here each spring and autumn. The academy enshrines Kim Yu-sin of the Silla dynasty as its central figure, along with a number of other distinguished figures: Goun Choe Chi-won, Jukgang Kim Bo, Dosan Kim Seon, Moam Kim Geuk-il, Sukjae Heo Ju, Jeompiljai Kim Jong-jik, Angyeonggong Kim Yeong-jeong, Tangyeong Kim Il-son, and Gabong Kim U-hang — exemplary sages of the Gimyo era and rising scholars of the Neo-Confucian tradition.
