Yeongcheon Manbulsa Temple traces its origins to 1987, when monk Hakseong established missionary centers in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu with the ambition of a new modern Buddhist vow, and the temple on Manbulsan Mountain was completed in 1995. Before the founding, extensive Buddhist construction works were undertaken including the Manbul Main Hall (Manbulbojeon), the transfer of authentic Buddha relics, and the enshrining of an open-air standing Amitabha Buddha statue, while also promoting modern Buddhism and devoting great energy to culture, medicine, and welfare. Preserved here are the Amitabha Buddha, the largest altar three-deity set in Korea (Samjonbul), five authentic Buddha relics and a Bodhi tree from Sri Lanka, the Yeongcheon Amitabha Great Buddha, a stupa, a golden reclining Buddha nirvana statue, a great bronze bell of ten thousand Buddhas, and many other treasures.
